The art of pattern mixing can be lots of fun! Mixing traditional patterns with contemporary can make a room unique. The design term "pattern mixing" is used when one curates a variety of textiles that are different in pattern, color and texture while creating a layered but cohesive look.
It is key to find patterns that balance one another through size, style and color. Mixing stripes and floral can be a great example of pattern mixing. See the picture of how I introduce a mix of patterns in my home.
